Urban Core, LLC — Real Estate Developers

Partners John Guttridge and David Kuckuk have changed the business and residential development landscape — especially on the West end of the Commons — in ways few could have imagined, and when Ashley approached John in 2015 looking for an interesting downtown location she didn’t dare to dream that Urban Core would acquire the “Rumbleseat building” and spearhead a conscientious and award-winning renovation with Trade Design Build to make The Watershed the best built bar in town. With brand new, built to suit utilities and a collaborative landlord-tenant working relationship, the crew at The Watershed is grateful to be a part of the growing business ecosystem housed in Urban Core’s buildings in downtown Ithaca.

The Advocacy Center

The Watershed strives to be a safe place to socialize and enjoy alcoholic drinks responsibly, and we couldn’t set the standard for date-night safety without the groundbreaking work of Naomi Barry and the Advocacy Center. The Barstander training for social establishments that serve alcohol is an important step toward prioritizing consent and identifying predatory behaviors before they escalate to sexual violence. This training is available for businesses and community members alike, as are the many services and resources of the Advocacy Center.

Tompkins County Workers’ Center

The Watershed is a Certified Living Wage Employer, largely thanks to the certification provided through the Tompkins County Workers’ Center. In collaboration with Alternatives Federal Credit Union’s bi-annual Living Wage Study, the Workers’ Center is instrumental in highlighting the cost of living in Tompkins County and advocating for workers’ interests and empowerment. At The Watershed we believe that a living wage is a moral value and that all workers should have the ability to organize and enjoy meaningful professional development, and so we have partnered with the Workers’ Center for human resource training in sexual harassment prevention as well as utilizing their meeting space for team trainings.
